Stunning reclaimed rustic Matai

Made from extremely rare and old, reclaimed Matai, this bed and matching bedsides are quite a unique creation.
I was lucky to find a collection of roughsawn Matai timber, having been hiding away in a garage in Te Aroha for years. It turned out that the Matai had served it's time as a Northland villa, built in the 1880's.
Working with reclaimed timber is a lengthy process. Selecting each piece of wood, individually for it's blend of colour, character and imperfections, then carefully hand sanding to preserve the years of history. It is always worth the effort though, as the result is a piece of furniture full of integrity, beauty and authenticity.
Combining the heavy rustic timber with custom made steel legs and a modern platform design gives this bed a light floating stance.
Finished with furniture wax for a beautiful smooth natural finish.
